Brought to Nashville by Lovenoise, Questlove’s DJ set at Mai tonight was great – I know you’ll probably give me a hard time about this, but I didn’t think it was really anything to write home about. Track selection? Outstanding. Performance? Sub-par in my opinion. The table work was light, interaction with the crowd did pick up once people quit staring and started dancing. Maybe it just seemed light simply because the “set” followed some amazing performances by Chance Warhol, Dee Goodz, and Wick-It though…who knows? All in all, this is certainly a show that will go down in history as one of Mai’s best. Thank you again, Nashville – I was just reminded again why we really are, and always will be “Music City”.
